Alexey V. Saprigin, Ph.D., is a patent agent in the San Francisco, CA office of Foley & Lardner LLP. He is a member of the firm’s Intellectual Property Department, Life Sciences Industry Team and Chemical, Biotechnology & Pharmaceutical Practice. Dr. Saprigin has extensive experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications (both US and foreign) in a wide range of technologies, including pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, microfluidics, proteomics, welding, solar cells, nanotechnology (including nanobiotechnology) and polymers.
Prior to joining Foley & Lardner, Dr. Saprigin was a national research council postdoctoral associate at the Center of Bio/Molecular Science and Engineering, U.S. Naval Research Laboratory. The focus of his research at NRL was the development of DNA based self-assembled nanostructures and quantitative methods, such as Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy, X-ray Photoelectron spectroscopy and ellipsometry, for characterization of such structures.
Dr. Saprigin earned his Ph.D. studying optical, electrical and structural properties of novel conducting polymers at the Ohio State University under the supervision of Prof. Arthur. J. Epstein. He received his B.S. (physics, with honors) and M.S. (chemical physics, with honors) from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. Dr. Saprigin’s particular area of expertise is optical spectroscopy, including infrared spectroscopy, time resolved spectroscopy and reflectance spectroscopy.
As a patent agent, Dr. Saprigin is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
