Daniel Werly is an associate with Foley & Lardner LLP and a member of the Business Litigation & Dispute Resolution Practice and Sports Industry Team.
Mr. Werly assists clients in a wide range of complex litigation matters including:
- Successfully representing clients in all phases of commercial disputes, ranging from pre-litigation dispute resolution, litigation or arbitration of commercial claims and defenses, and negotiation of favorable settlements for our clients
- Managing and conducting all phases of oral and written discovery in large scale complex litigation and arbitration
- Assisting clients in bankruptcy matters and defending clients in adversary proceedings
Mr. Werly represents clients in state and federal courts around the country. His practice focuses on commercial litigation with an emphasis on complex commercial, consumer class action, and securities matters. He has also successfully litigated several pro bono cases, including obtaining asylum for an unaccompanied minor from Honduras.
Prior to joining Foley, Mr. Werly was an associate in the Chicago office of Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP. He also served as a PILI fellow in the Depaul Law School’s Immigration clinic. During law school, he served as a judicial intern to The Honorable Craig J. Iscoe of the Superior Court in Washington, D.C. He was also a legal intern for an NBA agent at The Nuestadt Group Athlete Career Management and a legal intern at the United States Drug Enforcement Administration.
Mr. Werly earned his law degree from Georgetown University Law Center (J.D., 2009) where he was senior editor of the Georgetown Journal of International Law, alumni director of the GEMA (Sports) Law Group, and a Westlaw Student Representative. He earned his undergraduate degree from Miami University, where he studied health and sports studies with a minor in business legal studies (B.S., 2006). He was a member of Gamma Sigma Alpha Honors Fraternity and received the Gamma Sigma Alpha Scholarship Achievement Award.
In addition to his practice, Mr. Werly is co-chair of the National Immigrant Justice Center Junior Leadership Council Advocacy Committee and chair of the Chicago Outreach Committee for the Sports Lawyers Association.
