Joseph N. Ziebert is a partner with Foley & Lardner LLP and chair of the firm’s Electronics Practice and a member of the Green Energy Technologies Practice and Medical Devices Industry Team. Mr. Ziebert completed a secondment as chief IP counsel for Rockwell Collins, Inc. where he managed all intellectual property legal affairs, including corporate intellectual property training; intellectual asset procurement and management; intellectual property litigation; and intellectual property due diligence for licenses, agreements, mergers, acquisitions and divestitures.
Mr. Ziebert's practice includes IP due diligence support for large and small transactions, including one of the largest acquisitions in Wisconsin history. Mr. Ziebert's practice also includes patent portfolio procurement and management for a number of significant product lines of Fortune 500 companies. He has facilitated a large number of patent harvesting sessions and innovation workshops for a variety of clients.
In each of the last three years, Mr. Ziebert was named one of the 250 World’s Leading IP strategists by Intellectual Asset Management (IAM) magazine. Mr. Ziebert was further recognized among IAM Patent 1000 – The World’s Leading Patent Practitioners (2013). He has also been selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America® 2012 and 2013 in the area of patent law.
Mr. Ziebert is a graduate of Marquette University (B.S.E.E., magna cum laude, 1988) and the University of Wisconsin (J.D., with honors, 1991). Mr. Ziebert is admitted to practice in Wisconsin and before the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin. He is also a registered patent attorney, licensed to practice before the United States Patent & Trademark Office and is a member of the American Bar Association and its section of Intellectual Property Law.
