Kay Wilde is of counsel with Foley & Lardner LLP where she concentrates on insurance and reinsurance counseling, arbitration, and litigation. Ms. Wilde has served as lead counsel in reinsurance arbitrations and insurance coverage disputes, drafted insurance and reinsurance contracts, advised on reserving and claims handling methodologies, prepared detailed coverage analyses, represented claimants in insolvency proceedings, and assisted in pre-underwriting due diligence reviews. She has advised clients regarding the impact of a number of notable losses on their insurance and reinsurance portfolios, including the subprime mortgage crisis, the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, and Hurricane Katrina. Ms. Wilde is a member of the firm’s Insurance & Reinsurance Litigation Practice and the Insurance & Reinsurance Industry Team.
Before joining Foley, Ms. Wilde worked for a U.S. insurance company, as well as a London reinsurer.
Ms. Wilde is a graduate of the University of Michigan Law School (1989) where she received her J.D. degree, and the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire (1986, summa cum laude) where she received a B.A. in political science.
Ms. Wilde has spoken at a number of industry events on issues impacting insurers and reinsurers, including at the Strain Seminar Series, Mealey's/HB Litigation Conferences’ Annual Insurance Insolvency & Reinsurance Roundtable, the Midwest Environmental Claims Association Conference, the International Bar Association Annual Conference, and the Society of Actuaries Annual Meeting. She has been cited by Business Insurance, the National Law Journal, National Underwriter, and Risk & Insurance in relation to the subprime mortgage crisis, bank failures, and the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act with regard to the impact they’ve had on insurers who write professional liability covers.
Ms. Wilde is a member of the Illinois Bar. She is admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals, Seventh Circuit and the Northern District Court of Illinois.
