Kevin D. Makowski is a partner with Foley & Lardner LLP and co-chair of the firm's International Practice. He is also a member of the firm’s Transactional & Securities and Commercial Transactions & Business Counseling Practices. His work focuses on:
- Merger and acquisition transactions
- Private equity transactions
- Joint ventures and strategic alliances
- Complex commercial transactions
- Serving as general outside counsel for U.S. subsidiaries of foreign multinational companies and smaller to mid-sized privately held entrepreneurial companies
Mr. Makowski has broad experience working regularly with clients in a variety of industries, including the manufacturing, publishing, food and consumer products industries. Cross-border transactions are a particular emphasis of his practice. Mr. Makowski has extensive experience representing U.S. and foreign companies in complex multi-national transactions, and has been a frequent speaker on topics related to this practice.
Mr. Makowski is a graduate of the Future Milwaukee Leadership Training Program and has served on the board of directors of several non-profit organizations in the Milwaukee area.
Mr. Makowski graduated Phi Beta Kappa having received his bachelor's degree, summa cum laude, from the University of Cincinnati in 1992. He received his J.D. degree, cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania in 1995. From 1993 to 1995 he served as associate and senior editor of the Journal of International Business Law. He is the author of "German Federal Constitutional Court's Decision on Accession to the Treaty on the EU" (Journal of International Business Law, Vol. 16, No. 1).
He is admitted to practice law in Wisconsin and is fluent in German.
