Lars A. Peterson is an associate at Foley & Lardner LLP, where he is a member of the firm’s Bankruptcy & Business Reorganizations and Business Litigation & Dispute Resolution Practices.
Mr. Peterson has assisted clients in many aspects of bankruptcy law, including:
- Representing indenture trustees of defaulted bonds in major chapter 11 cases;
- Representing official creditors’ committees in chapter 11 cases of bank holding companies;
- Representing lessor of commercial real estate in tenant bankruptcy proceedings;
- Representing a Big 4 accounting firm in its engagements as accountant to debtors in major chapter 11 cases;
- Representing debtors in chapter 11 reorganization and liquidation;
- Assisting unsecured creditors in chapter 11 cases;
- Protecting secured creditors from stripping down of liens on chapter 11 debtor’s real property;
- Defending numerous preference actions to advantageous settlement;
- Representing a major regional bank in state and federal litigation to enforce commercial loans and personal guaranties;
- Litigating pro bono civil rights case for deprivation of constitutional right to adequate medical care on behalf of pretrial detainees in Cook County Jail
Mr. Peterson obtained his law degree, with high distinction, from the University of Iowa College of Law (J.D., 2007), where he was a member of the Iowa Law Review and was also elected to the Order of the Coif.
Mr. Peterson is admitted to practice in Illinois and before the United States District Courts for the Northern and Central Districts of Illinois, and the Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.
Mr. Peterson is fluent in French and holds degrees in French literature, including his Ph.D. from the University of Iowa, his master’s from the University of Florida, and his bachelor’s degree from New College of Florida.
