Leila Nourani is a partner at Foley & Lardner LLP. She is chair of the Los Angeles Litigation Department and as such oversees litigation assignments and associate training, mentoring and advancement. She is a member of the firm's Business Litigation & Dispute Resolution, Distribution & Franchise, Product Liability, Consumer Financial Services and Construction Practices.

Ms. Nourani has significant experience litigating a broad range of commercial cases in both state and federal courts. She is experienced in all phases of litigation and has prosecuted, defended and managed small to complex multi-party cases, including qui tam, representative, and class actions. She has tried both jury and non-jury cases. She also has significant experience in arbitration and mediation proceedings and serves as a mediator at the Los Angeles County Bar.

Ms. Nourani's clients range from small to large businesses including hospitals, contractors, manufacturers, suppliers and dealers (in the medical, toy, automotive, industrial, construction, and agricultural equipment industries). Her practice focuses on commercial disputes and trials in matters ranging from business tort, breach of contract; franchise, consumer litigation; product liability, personal injury, wrongful death, fraud, unfair competition, misappropriation of trade secrets, construction defect, warranty claims, and distributorship disputes.

In the past 5 years, Ms. Nourani acted as one of the lead defense counsel in the coordinated clergy sexual abuse litigation pending in Northern and Southern California.

She also specializes in consumer product safety including counseling on compliance with the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act.

Ms. Nourani is a graduate of the University of London, Kings College, and the Université de Paris I, Sorbonne, and a recipient of these universities' prestigious Joint English and French law degrees (L.L.B. Honors and Maitrise de Droit, 1989). During her legal studies, she received numerous honors awards involving moot court trial and advocacy competitions. She was admitted to the Bar of England and Wales in 1990. Before practicing in the United States, Ms. Nourani practiced as a Barrister at Law at the Chambers of David Kemp QC in Gray's Inn, London, England. Ms. Nourani speaks fluent French and conversational Farsi.

Admitted to the California Bar in 1992, Ms. Nourani is also admitted to practice before the United States Court of Appeals, and the United States District Court for the Central and Southern Districts of California. She is a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, the Women's Lawyer Association of Los Angeles, the Defense Research Institute and the American - British Bar Association.

Ms. Nourani is a member of the firm's Recruiting and Pro Bono Committees. She regularly devotes pro bono services to legal aid societies including Public Counsel, Bet Tzedek and the Disabilities Legal Rights Center. She is also a member of a number of disaster relief organizations.
