Nancy J. Geenen
Partner
Nancy J. Geenen is a partner with Foley & Lardner LLP where she counsels clients on risk assessment and risk management in the financial services, technology, life sciences, and real estate industries. In those disputes that are not conducive to a business resolution, Ms. Geenen partners with her clients and leads trial teams in both bench and jury trials. She speaks and writes frequently on creditor rights, litigation management and electronic discovery, jury trial presentation, diversity, and leadership in law firm management. Ms. Geenen assists and advises business clients in the effective resolution of intellectual property and business disputes. She is a member of the Intellectual Property Litigation; Business Litigation & Dispute Resolution; and Bankruptcy & Business Reorganizations Practices. In 1998 and 1999, Ms. Geenen worked as a prosecutor for the United Nations Compensation Commission (UNCC) in Geneva, Switzerland as team leader and senior legal officer. The UNCC resolved claims for losses incurred as a result of the 1990 Gulf War. While working at the UNCC, she investigated, prosecuted, and resolved over $10 billion in claims for contract and business losses filed by 420 business entities from 45 countries. Ms. Geenen is a member of the firm's Pro Bono and Contingency Fee Committees. She is the former managing partner of the firm's San Francisco and Silicon Valley offices and a past co-chair of Foley's LGBT Affinity Group. Admitted to the California Bar in 1988, she practices before all of the United States District Courts in California and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. She was admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court in 2002. Ms. Geenen is a 1988 graduate of the Santa Clara University School of Law and earned an M.A. in 1982 and a B.A. in 1981 from Stanford University.
