Raymond J. Carey is a partner in Foley's Labor & Employment Practice. He has more than 20 years of experience counseling and representing health care and other employers in all types of employment and labor related matters. This includes human resource development and training, diversity training, practice and procedure development and individual plaintiff, multi-plaintiff and class action litigation involving virtually all types of employment-related claims, including EEO, ERISA, FLSA, FMLA, Section 301(a) and other federal and state statutory and common law causes of action. Mr. Carey also routinely counsels and represents employers concerning labor/management relations issues, collective bargaining, and management/labor disputes and in proceedings before federal and state courts and administrative agencies, including the NLRB, OSHA/MIOSHA, the EEOC, and the MDCR.Mr. Carey has practiced law in the Detroit area for almost 20 years. Admitted to practice in Michigan, he is a member of the Detroit Bar Association (Labor, Circuit Court and Civil Rights Sections), Federal Bar Association, and American Bar Association (vice-chairman, General Practice Section, Labor Law Committee, 1985–8; Executive Committee of the Human Rights Committee, Young Lawyers Division, 1985–6; Labor and Employment Law Section, General Practice Sections, Litigation Committee). He is also a member of the State Bar of Michigan (member, Employment and Labor Law, Media Law, General Practice, Antitrust, Copyright and Trademark Section); the Association of Trial Lawyers of America; the Society of Irish-American Lawyers; and the Michigan Society of Hospital Attorneys. Mr. Carey is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame, where he received his bachelor's degree in 1975 and his J.D. degree in 1981. He has served as an adjunct professor at the University of Detroit and has been involved in a wide range of community service and cultural activities in the Detroit area. He is listed in Who's Who in American Law and International Who's Who of Professionals.
