John H. Douglas is a partner with Foley & Lardner LLP. A member of the firm's Labor & Employment, Appellate, Business Litigation & Dispute Resolution and Privacy, Security & Information Management Practices, as well as the firm's Trade Secret / Non-Compete Task Force and Food Industry Team, Mr. Douglas' practice focuses on employment, labor relations, wage and hour, trade secret, and competition issues. Mr. Douglas has extensive experience counseling and representing medical, high technology, manufacturing, retail, educational and service industry employers in federal and state courts, before federal administrative agencies such as the National Labor Relations Board and U.S. Department of Labor, before state administrative agencies such as the California Public Employment Relations Board, and in labor arbitrations. He also has represented employers in collective bargaining negotiations and has extensive experience with physician employment issues.

In the wage and hour arena, Mr. Douglas regularly advises firm clients on compliance with both federal and state law. He has conducted numerous California Labor Code compliance audits for firms employing between 25 and 250 employees. He has also defended numerous employers in a wide variety of industries against class, representative, group and individual claims brought in federal and state court, with the U.S. Department of Labor and before the California Labor Commissioner. He also regularly advises and represents unionized employers in connection with grievances regarding the interpretation of compensation provisions of collective bargaining agreements.

Mr. Douglas has contributed articles on labor and employment topics to a variety of publications, including the National Law Journal, Bloomberg Law Reports, the San Francisco and Los Angeles Daily Journals, Berkeley Journal of Employment & Labor Law, Indian Gaming, Inside Health Law, Group Practice Journal, California Medicine, the Florida Bar Journal and Health Progress. He is a member of the American Bar Association and Bar Association of San Francisco. In 2005, Mr. Douglas was named one of the Bay Area's "Best Lawyers in Appellate Practice" by Bay Area Lawyer Magazine.

Mr. Douglas is a graduate of Boalt Hall School of Law, University of California, Berkeley (J.D., 1995), where he served on the executive board of the moot court program, and Harvard University (B.A., cum laude, 1983). He was admitted to the California Bar in 1995. In addition to all California state courts, Mr. Douglas is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Eastern, Central and Southern Districts of California, the Ninth and D.C. Circuit Courts of Appeal, and the United States Supreme Court.
