Associate

Katherine (Katie) Licup is an associate with Foley & Lardner LLP, where she has worked on cases in both state and federal courts, in arbitral forums, and in regulatory proceedings before the Illinois Commerce Commission. She represents clients in a wide variety of fraud, misappropriation, defamation and breach-of-contract disputes, and also represents clients involved in securities, bankruptcy, and financial services litigation as a member of the Business Litigation & Dispute Resolution and Consumer Financial Services Litigation Practices.

Ms. Licup has presented oral argument in state and federal courts and is experienced in drafting and arguing contested motions, coordinating discovery in large cases, removals and remands, and defending class actions.

Ms. Licup also enjoys an active pro bono practice. She successfully helped appeal the sentence of a client to the Seventh Circuit which was improperly calculated under the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines. She has assisted in negotiating a settlement for a parent involved in an international custody dispute and has represented children as a Guardian Ad Litem. She has also represented an elderly veteran who was the victim of mortgage fraud.

Ms. Licup received her J.D. from Loyola University Chicago School of Law (magna cum laude) in 2006, where she was the editor-in-chief of the Public Interest Law Reporter and was a member of the National Moot Court team. She also served as student editor of the American Bar Association Student Lawyer and was an extern for The Honorable Wayne Andersen, Northern District of Illinois (2005). Prior to joining Foley as a summer associate in 2005, Ms. Licup was a surface warfare and public affairs officer in the U.S. Navy. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in journalism from Northwestern University.

Ms. Licup is president of the Chicago Council of the Navy League of the United States, serves on the board of directors of Northwestern University's Naval ROTC Scholarship Fund, and is the immediate past president of the St. Edmund Parish Pastoral Council in Oak Park. She is co-owner, with her husband, of Compass Eye Care, an independent optometry practice in Oak Park.

Ms. Licup is a member of the Chicago, Illinois State and American Bar Associations. She is admitted to practice in Illinois.
