Michael P. Harrell
Public Affairs Director

Michael P. Harrell is a public affairs director with Foley & Lardner LLP. He is a member of the Government & Public Policy Practice.

Mr. Harrell has extensive experience lobbying the Florida legislative and executive branches on a wide range of business and regulatory issues including a significant governmental procurement practice.

Prior to joining Foley, Mr. Harrell was managing partner of Capitol Resources Florida, LLC and founder and president of The Harrell Group, LLC, a multi-faceted governmental relations firm specializing in executive and legislative affairs, as well as procurement consulting.

Before starting his own firm, Mr. Harrell worked as a government relations specialist for the multi-national law firm of Steel Hector & Davis, where Mr. Harrell first began building his extensive list of corporate clients. Today, this list includes such companies as EDS, KBR, SAS and Verizon Wireless.

Mr. Harrell has also served as the executive director of the Florida Medical Association's (FMA) Political Action Committee, where he was responsible for all political activities of the FMA at both the state and federal levels, including candidate recruitment, grassroots political efforts and fundraising. In this role, he was the primary liaison with members of Florida's congressional delegation and the American Medical Association.

Mr. Harrell started his political career in Washington, D.C., where he served in the office of the vice president of the United States as a lead advance representative for Vice President Dan Quayle. In this position, he was responsible for media, transportation, security and logistics for all trips, foreign and domestic. In addition, while in Washington, D.C., he served as executive assistant to Secretary of Labor, Elizabeth Dole, and was responsible for preparing issue and political briefings for the secretary.

Mr. Harrell received his bachelor's degree from the University of Mississippi in 1986. He is married to Mallory Harrell and they have 3 boys, Bennett, Hayes and Shelby.
