Shilpa Patel is an associate with Foley & Lardner LLP and is a member of the Health Care Team. She has broad experience in corporate and regulatory counsel in the health care market and regularly advises hospitals and health systems, long-term care facilities, physicians and physician organizations, pharmaceutical companies, and other health care entities. Ms. Patel has helped public and safety-net hospitals develop operational and financing plans necessary to their survival, as well assisted with their applications for federal and state grants. She also works with Federally Qualified Health Centers and is experienced with public entity/co-applicant arrangements. Ms. Patel provides advice and counsel regarding health care institutional structuring and governance, reimbursement, contracting, clinical integration matters, network formation, physician practice group acquisitions and arrangements, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and related matters. She provides counseling regarding compliance with Medicare and Medicaid, including reimbursement, audit appeals, Medicare Part D, fraud and abuse, False Claims Act cases and audits and investigation of hospital clients for the NYS Office of Medicaid Inspector General.
Prior to joining Foley, Ms. Patel was an associate with Garfunkel, Wild & Travis, P.C.
Ms. Patel received her law degree from Brooklyn Law School (J.D., 2006) where she was a member of the South Asian Law Association and Health Law Practice and Policy Clinic. She earned her undergraduate degree from Tufts University (B.A., 2001).
While in law school, she was a summer associate for the State of New York Office of the Attorney General and she interned at the NYC Health and Hospitals Corporation.
Ms. Patel is admitted to practice in New York, New Jersey and before the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey. She is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association, the New York City Bar Association - Health Law Committee, New York Bar Association – Health Law Section, and the New York County Lawyer’s Association.
