Kise Comments on Deal Between Venezuelan State Oil Company and Firm Co-Owned by Fla. Republican

Partner Chris Kise was quoted in a Reuters article, “Venezuela’s PDVSA in oil deal with firm part-owned by Florida Republican,” about a deal between Venezuelan state oil firm PDVSA and Erepla, a little-known U.S. energy firm, to help increase the socialist-run country’s plummeting crude oil output.

Kise represents former Florida Republican Party Finance Chairman Harry Sargeant III, part-owner of Erepla, who had business ties with PDVSA in the early 2000s through a Texas-based company he partly owned called Trigeant, whose Texas-based refinery processed Venezuelan crude into asphalt. Trigeant sold the refinery to a third party before paying arbitration claims totaling $52 million for unpaid crude shipments to PDVSA.

Kise said Sargeant eventually made PDVSA whole. “Ultimately, Harry III resolved PDVSA’s claims to their satisfaction,” he said.
