Overview Yichen Liu Associate eliu foley.com Download vCard Yichen (Emily) Liu, Ph.D. is an associate and intellectual property lawyer with Foley & Lardner LLP. Dr. Liu counsels clients on various aspects of intellectual property matters, including drafting patent applications, patent prosecution, portfolio management, due diligence, and providing invalidity and non-infringement opinions. Her practice spans a number of technological areas, including diagnostic testing, immunology, pharmaceutical compositions including small molecules, peptides, proteins, and drug delivery systems. She is a member of the Chemical, Biotechnology & Pharmaceutical Practice. Dr. Liu was a summer associate with Foley in 2013. Prior to joining Foley, she served as a patent and licensing clinic member to the University of Virginia School of Law. She also was a summer associate to a small litigation firm. Education Dr. Liu earned her law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law (J.D., 2014), where she was vice president of the Virginia Society of Law and Technology. She also was a member of the Virginia Journal of Law and Technology and the Asian Pacific American Law Students Association (APALSA). Dr. Liu completed her doctorate in biochemistry at Emory University (Ph.D., 2011). She received the Professional Development Support Award. Dr. Liu received her bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Science and Technology in China (B.S., 2005). Publications and Presentations Dr. Liu’s graduate research focused on engineering enzymes for antiviral and cancer therapy. She is published in academic journals and has represented her research at a national American Chemical Society conference.
