Lawson is a partner and litigation lawyer in the Orlando office of Foley & Lardner LLP. She has first chair experience representing Fortune 100 companies. Ms. Lawson is a member of the firm's Consumer Financial Services, Labor & Employment and Privacy, Security & Information Management Practices, as well as the Trade Secret/Noncompete Specialty Practice. As a member of the Litigation Department, Ms. Lawson has experience working with all aspects of complex litigation and trial matters, and with preparing briefs for matters before appellate courts in Florida, Nevada, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth and Eleventh Circuits, and the United States Supreme Court. Ms. Lawson maintains a broad-based consumer financial services practice. She has substantial experience litigating claims under and counseling clients regarding compliance with federal and state consumer lending laws, including the Truth in Lending Act, the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the Fair Credit Billing Act, "fair lending," the Electronic Funds Transfer Act, the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act, and other federal and state unfair trade practice and consumer protection laws. In addition, Ms. Lawson handles regulatory enforcement actions and provides general compliance counseling for lenders (banks and non-banks), servicers, and consumer reporting agencies. Ms. Lawson’s work with consumer reporting agencies focuses on the resellers and the unique legal and regulatory issues that resellers face in the financial industry. Ms. Lawson is also an adjunct professor for the Florida State University College of Law Juris Master’s program and currently is teaching a course entitled Regulatory Compliance. As a member of the firm’s Labor & Employment Practice, Ms. Lawson also represents clients regarding the enforcement and defense of non-competition and non-solicitation agreements, as well as trade secret enforcement. Ms. Lawson's professional experience includes three-and-a-half years as a tax and audit accountant for the Florida Department of Transportation, working in the accounts receivable and joint participation agreements sections. In law school, Ms. Lawson was selected for a judicial clerkship with the Florida Supreme Court. Recognition Ms. Lawson was selected for inclusion in the 2009 - 2015 Florida Super Lawyers – Rising Stars® lists. In 2012, she received the ABA Military Pro Bono Project Outstanding Services Award in recognition of the pro bono services she provides to junior-enlisted, active-duty servicemembers. Education Ms. Lawson received her J.D., magna cum laude, from Florida State University College of Law in 2001. In 1996, she received her B.A., cum laude in political science from Florida State University, specializing in Middle Eastern relations, with a minor in history. Admissions and Professional Memberships Ms. Lawson is admitted to The Florida Bar, the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Middle, and Southern Districts of Florida, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth and Eleventh Circuits, and the U.S. Supreme Court. She is a member of the Orange County Bar Association. Community Engagement Ms. Lawson continues to be active in her community. She served two terms as chairman of the City of Orlando’s Civil Service Board, and is currently co-chair for the governing board for Orlando’s chapter of ATHENAPowerLink®, and chair of the board of directors of The New Image Youth Center, which aims to improve the lives of inner-city youth by providing an environment where students feel safe to dream.
