Partner Fred Ridley has been appointed to the Board of Directors of Starwood Property Trust, Inc. (NYSE:STWD). Starwood Property Trust, Inc., an affiliate of global private investment firm Starwood Capital Group, is the largest commercial mortgage real estate investment trust in the United States. Ridley will become an independent director. The appointment is effective immediately.

Starwood continues to expand and diversify its global multi-cylinder finance business, and I look forward to contributing to the Board’s work to create long term shareholder value,” said Ridley, who has over 35 years of experience in representing financial institutions and developers of single-family and multifamily real estate projects, including coordination of acquisition and financing issues, environmental and coastal permitting, and negotiations of entitlements with local and state governmental entities.
Ridley is the former national chair of Foley’s Real Estate Practice, and a member of the Hospitality & Leisure (former co-chair), and Sports Industry Teams. He also is a former member of the firm’s Management Committee. In 2017, Ridley became chairman of Augusta National Golf Club.
