Foley Assists Vail Health’s Eagle Valley Behavioral Health in Achieving Designation as a Community Mental Health Center
Foley & Lardner LLP announced today it served as the legal counsel for its Colorado-based client, Vail Health, in obtaining a Community Mental Health Center (CMHC) designation from the Colorado Department of Health’s Office of Behavioral Health. The designation is for Eagle Valley Behavioral Health, an outreach of Vail Health. The CMHC designation classifies Eagle Valley Behavioral Health as an official group of services under a unified administration for the prevention and treatment of behavioral or mental health disorders. This official designation makes Eagle Valley Behavioral Health the 18th named CMHC in Colorado and is the first such designation for Vail Health in its 33 years as a nonprofit, community health care system.
“Vail Health developed Eagle Valley Behavioral Health to transform the landscape of behavioral health in the community. The full designation as a Community Mental Health Center is a historic and groundbreaking achievement,” said Will Cook, Vail Health President and CEO, in a statement issued by the Health System. “This designation will hopefully lead to an increase in rural behavioral health services that helps to meet the needs of the communities we serve and ultimately will be the first step toward the transformation of the behavioral health landscape across our community, the state, and the nation.”
The designation occurred following a formal CMHC site visit by The Office of Behavioral Health and required a tremendous amount of work and dedication across the Vail Health enterprise, the Colorado Mountain Medical system, and through crucial community partnerships such as The Hope Center, Bright Future Foundation, Eagle County Public Health, Eagle County Health and Human Services, the Multicultural Intercultural Resource Alliance (MIRA), Eagle County Paramedics, Speak Up Reach Out, Early Childhood Partners, My Future Pathways, Eagle County School District, and local law enforcement.
The Foley team that served as legal counsel for Vail Health throughout the CMHC designation of Eagle Valley Behavioral Health was led by Partner Emily Weber and included Partner Anil Shankar and Associates Lauren Carboni and Kara Schoonover.
