Foley Partner Nathaniel Lacktman, Chair of the firm’s Telemedicine Industry Team and Co-Chair of the firm’s Digital Health Group, will be speaking at the 2017 Telehealth Law Forum in Chicago on May 16, 2017. His presentation is titled, “Key State and Federal Legal Issues in Telemedicine.”

Advances in telemedicine promote good patient care, but the rules when building a multi-state arrangement can be daunting. The presentation will discusses issues such as:

  • Licensing and cross-border practice
  • Trends in state medical board telemedicine practice standards
  • Scope of practice
  • Remote prescribing of drugs and the Ryan Haight Act
  • Patient consent and access
  • Corporate practice of medicine prohibitions and virtual care start-up companies
  • Healthcare fraud and abuse laws and telehealth arrangements
  • Privacy and security

The 2017 Telehealth Law Forum will engage medical professionals in discussions of the most effective and legally sound approaches to advancing telehealth in Illinois and beyond. It provides an opportunity for telehealth stakeholders to engage with other like-minded organizations. The Forum will also educate telehealth stakeholders on opportunities for collaboration to advance telehealth. The Forum is organized by the Illinois Telehealth Initiative, a project of the Partnership for a Connected Illinois, an Illinois 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation aimed at advancing telehealth in Illinois.
