Nathaniel Lacktman, Chair of Foley & Lardner’s national Telemedicine & Digital Health Industry Team, will be a speaker at the American Telemedicine Association ATA2021 conference on June 24, 2021. His panel presentation is titled, “State Telemedicine Law & Policy: 2021 and Beyond."
Mr. Lacktman will be joined by an expert panel including:
While the past year quickly revealed how telehealth can improve health outcomes and offer new access points to care, the rapid adoption also showed that many state regulatory and reimbursement frameworks were outdated, inconsistent, or needed improvement to increase access to telehealth. In response, state legislators across the country -- often with the support of state Governors--made telehealth reform a top priority this legislative session with over 500 bills filed. This presentation will focus exclusively on state-level telemedicine laws and policy trends, covering issues such as coverage and reimbursement rules, state telemedicine practice standards, internet prescribing laws, and efforts towards interstate licensure portability/reciprocity. These telehealth policy experts will assess the national landscape and offer perspectives on which policy approaches were best received; which policy proposals will be most effective at advancing telemedicine; and what changes states are likely to address in the coming year.
As the only organization completely focused on advancing telehealth, the American Telemedicine Association (ATA) is working to change the way the world thinks about healthcare. ATA is committed to ensuring that everyone has access to safe, effective, and appropriate care when and where they need it, enabling the system to do more good for more people. ATA represents a broad and inclusive member network of technology solution providers and payers, as well as partner organizations and alliances. Together, ATA members work to advance industry adoption of telehealth, promote responsible policy, advocate for government and market normalization, and provide education and resources to help integrate virtual care into emerging value-based delivery models.
