Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP Environmental Partner Fran E. Phillips was recently elected to the Board of the EPA Alumni Association, Inc., a nationwide community of former employees of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Her election was announced April 19 at the association's annual meeting in Washington, D.C.
The EPA Alumni Association was formed in 2008 and has more than 800 members, 75 percent of whom are located outside the District of Columbia or its four surrounding states. Among other things, the association provides a neutral opportunity for former employees to share opinions, views, thoughts and concerns about EPA-related topics and advance the understanding of complex environmental issues.
The association has strong support and participation from the EPA's former administrators, including founding administrator Bill Ruckelshaus and other key EPA officials.
Prior to joining Gardere, Ms. Phillips spent 15 years at the EPA, serving as deputy regional administrator in Dallas, regional counsel in Atlanta and associate general counsel in Washington, D.C. She currently practices in all areas of law and policy relating to environmental compliance and natural resource regulation, including CERCLA and hazardous waste regulation, air permitting and water law.
Ms. Phillips is consistently ranked in Chambers USA, The Best Lawyers in America, and Texas Super Lawyers as a leader in her field and was named the "2012 Dallas Environmental Law Lawyer of the Year" by Best Lawyers.
