Mitchell Comments on Being Falsely Implicated in Trump-Russia Investigation

31 August 2018 Wall Street Journal News

Partner Cleta Mitchell was quoted in a Wall Street Journal editorial, “Anatomy of a Fusion Smear,” about being the target of a political and media smear campaign in connection with the investigation of possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.

Mitchell had been identified in an interim report last spring by Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee as someone who was “involved in or may have knowledge of third-party political outreach from the Kremlin to the Trump campaign.” She also was named in a newspaper article that claimed Congress was investigating her concern that the NRA had been funneling Russian funds into the 2016 election.

Mitchell told the newspaper that neither claim is true. She is also calling for the prosecution of Fusion GPS co-founder Glenn Simpson, whom she believes is the source of the misinformation about her, for lying to a federal official.

“That allegation impugns my ethical integrity and professional reputation,” she said.
