Sonal Agarwal



Sonal Agarwal is an associate with Foley & Lardner LLP. She is a member of the firm’s Electronics Practice. Ms. Agarwal has significant domestic and international patent drafting and prosecution experience in a wide range of electrical, electromechanical, computer hardware, and software industries. Ms. Agarwal has drafted and prosecuted patent applications in areas including, but not limited to: semiconductor devices and fabrication techniques, electrical circuits and components, MEMS systems, power distribution, computer networks, memory systems, wireless communications, virtual computing systems, software for healthcare and financial services, artificial intelligence, image processing, social networking, computer architecture, optics, wind turbines, security and monitoring systems, off-road engines/vehicles, earth moving machinery, HVAC equipment, and unmanned vehicles. Additionally, Ms. Agarwal provides litigation support and counsels clients on a variety of patent related issues.

Prior to joining Foley, Ms. Agarwal was a patent engineer/technical specialist at an intellectual property boutique firm in downtown Chicago, and at a general practice law firm in Madison.


Ms. Agarwal earned her law degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School (J.D., cum laude, 2016), where she was elected to the Order of the Coif. She is also a Dean’s Academic Achievement Award recipient. Ms. Agarwal earned her M.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and her B.S. in computer science and engineering from the Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya, India.

Ms. Agarwal is admitted to practice in Wisconsin, and before the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin. Ms. Agarwal is also admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
