Sophie (Jing) Chen is an associate and intellectual property lawyer with Foley & Lardner LLP. Sophie is a member of the Technology Transactions & Outsourcing Practice, where she counsels international and domestic companies on legal and business issues relating to technology, intellectual property, and commercial deals.
Sophie also has experience in litigating patent infringement lawsuits in various district courts across the country, drafting and prosecuting patent applications and managing global patent portfolios, as well as conducting IP due diligence and drafting freedom-to-operate reports.
Prior to joining Foley, Sophie served as assistant vice president and in-house counsel with a Fortune 500 company.
Sophie regularly provides pro bono assistance to low income tenants, entrepreneurs, and microbusinesses in San Diego.
Sophie earned her law degree from Notre Dame Law School (J.D., magna cum laude, 2012). Sophie is a graduate of Peking University in China, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in biological science and a double degree in economics (B.S., 2009).
Sophie is admitted to practice law in California and before the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California. She is also a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US).
Sophie is fluent and literate in Mandarin Chinese.
