Dr. Peter Diez is a patent agent with Foley & Lardner LLP. His practice includes preparing and prosecuting patent applications (both U.S. and foreign) as part of Foley’s Chemical, Biotechnology & Pharmaceutical Practice.
Prior to joining the firm, Dr. Diez was a patent agent at a Global 100 firm.
Education & Technical Experience
Dr. Diez has a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from The Scripps Research Institute (2013) where he developed a process employing titanium-mediated cross-coupling for the synthesis of skipped-alkenes which he applied to the total synthesis of the natural product vittatalactone and the northern fragment of borrelidin. Dr. Diez received B.S. degrees in chemistry and biochemistry from Florida State University (2007).
Before entering IP law, Dr. Diez worked for over two years in the bioanalytical space developing and validating quantitative liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LCMS) methods used for the clinical analysis of pharmaceuticals, metabolites, and hormones in biological matrices including whole blood, urine, serum, and plasma. This work included the development of procedures for biological sample storage and preparation used in high-throughput processing and analysis.
