Dr. Jun Young Kim has drafted and prosecuted patent applications in numerous areas, including semiconductor devices, printing devices, optical and photonic devices, data management systems, and building management systems. Jun has extensive research experience in the fields of electrical engineering and computational materials science, including semiconductor devices and fabrication processes, design of nanostructures for photonic applications, and computational modeling of nuclear reactor materials. He is the lead author of seven peer-reviewed journal articles and co-author of more than 10 journal articles.

Jun fulfilled his military service as a Republic of Korea Army officer at the Korea Military Academy, where he was appointed as an assistant professor and taught undergraduate physics.
