Overview

Julie-Anne Lutfi is a partner and business lawyer with Foley & Lardner LLP, where she is a member of the firm’s Private Equity & Venture Capital Practice and the Life Sciences and Technology Industry Teams. Her global practice focuses on domestic and international business transactions, including equity financings for corporate, venture capital and private equity clients; research and development collaborations and corporate partnering transactions; strategic investments; restructurings; mergers and acquisitions; and other exit transactions. Julie also regularly acts as general outside counsel for an array of private and venture backed companies in the life sciences, technology, and financial services fields, as well as U.S. and European venture and private equity firms who invest in such companies.

Prior to joining Foley, Julie was tax/corporate counsel for Credit Suisse AG in Zurich, Switzerland where she advised clients on complex international technical tax matters and estate planning solutions for high and ultra-high net worth individuals using trusts, foundations and other wealth planning structures. She focused her practice on the U.S., Canada, Brazil, Israel and APAC markets.

Julie was also a tax associate for KPMG LLP in Boston where she provided clients with tax consulting services in the areas of R&D, medical devices, and energy sustainability. Before entering law school, Julie was a securities paralegal at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom in Boston, and a project manager for INTERPOL Headquarters in Lyon, France in the Anti-Money Laundering Unit.

  • Represented ConcertAI, an oncology-focused real-world data and SaaS startup, in a 150M Series C financing from Sixth Street Partners with a 1.9B valuation 
  • Represented Stage 1 Ventures in in a 52M preferred stock investment in Witricity, a wireless charging company, with co-investments from Air Waves Wireless Electricity and Mitsubishi Corporation (Americas)

Education

Julie earned her law degree from Suffolk Law School (J.D., 2012) with a concentration in business services and financial services. During law school, she was a pro bono student attorney with the Political Asylum and Immigration Representation Project (PAIR), in which she received the award of “Volunteer Interpreter of the Year” in 2011 for her work. Julie was also a member of the International Law Student Association and a volunteer for the Suffolk Law School Immigration Clinic.

Julie earned her bachelor’s degree in political science and justice studies from the University of New Hampshire (B.A., 2006). During this time, she spent a semester abroad studying comparative law at the University of Law Jean Moulin in Lyon, France. Julie also received her baccalauréat of literature from Lycée Jean Perrin in Lyon, France.
