Overview

Colleen McKnight is a senior counsel and litigation lawyer with Foley & Lardner LLP. Colleen’s practice primarily focuses on protecting and equipping entrepreneurs and innovators. Her practice involves the representation of these trail blazers still in the “start-up” phase to those in large corporations. She handles and advises on cases in this area for clients across a variety of industries particularly energy, technology and healthcare. Colleen’s extensive experience allows her to aid clients in using a variety of tools to protect their intellectual property, reputation, and blood, sweat and tears invested in their businesses and innovations. 

Colleen’s experience includes extensive trial experience, including first-chair jury trial experience, and trial experience before state and federal courts, as well as confidential arbitrations. Colleen has significant experience advising clients in all facets of litigation including case assessment and strategy, factual investigation, electronic discovery, dispositive motions, mediation, depositions, trial preparation and trial.  

In addition to her trial experience, Colleen is an experienced brief writer and has also obtained numerous successful state and federal appellate orders.

Representative Matters

  • Obtained a temporary injunction and successful settlement against a medical device client’s competitor for Lanham Act and common law false advertising claims
  • Successfully defended a health care company in jury trial from unmerited claims for excessive commissions
  • Defended oil and gas operator in bench trial against top lessor’s quiet title claims
  • Effectively cross examined Plaintiffs’ key expert in confidential arbitration leading to the dismissal of a $45 million property claim, and contributing to a favorable settlement
  • Service as an outside counsel for deep-learning artificial intelligence technology company
  • Obtained an order from the 5th Circuit court of appeals overturning death penalty sanctions and summary judgment award
