Nicola A. Pisano is a trial lawyer with experience in software, wireless communications, encryption, semiconductor, telephony, Internet-based, mechanical, and medical device technologies. He has litigated patent and trade secret matters in federal district courts throughout the United States and in interference proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Mr. Pisano also has extensive experience procuring patents relating to diverse technical fields, including software, wireless communications, telephony, network, semiconductor, and a vast array of medical device technologies. He is a member of the IP Litigation, Electronics and Mechanical & Electromechanical Technologies Practices and the Life Sciences Industry Team.
Mr. Pisano represents start-up companies with respect to managing worldwide patent portfolios, licensing, and strategic/litigation planning. He also represents domestic and international venture capital firms in connection with intellectual property due diligence of investment targets engaged in developing medical devices and energy and wireless/telecommunications technologies.
Mr. Pisano has been selected for inclusion on the lists of San Diego Super Lawyers® (2010 – 2016) and has been Peer Review Rated as AV® Preeminent™, the highest performance rating in Martindale-Hubbell's peer review rating system.
Mr. Pisano earned his law degree from the University of Notre Dame (J.D., magna cum laude, 1989) and holds a masters in nuclear engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.S., 1982). His undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering was conferred by the University of Notre Dame (B.S., 1980).
