Overview

Nicholas (Nick) Rosinia is a senior counsel and dispute resolution attorney with Foley & Lardner LLP. Nick concentrates his practice on resolving insurance and reinsurance disputes, and is a member of the firm’s Insurance & Reinsurance  Litigation Practice.

Nick’s experience includes counseling and representing commercial insurers in large-scale disputes, as well as corporate clients in complex civil litigation proceedings pending before federal and state trial and appellate courts nationwide. Nick’s diverse experience includes the following:*

  • Representing a commercial insurance company through both bench and jury trials in multi-party coverage and contribution lawsuit premised upon insured’s exposure to numerous asbestos claims and liability as potentially responsible party under CERCLA
  • Counseling a commercial insurer regarding potential exposure arising from long-tail asbestos claims
  • Representing a raisin cooperative and bargaining association as amici before the United States Supreme Court
  • Representing a putative class of raisin growers asserting claims under the Fifth Amendment’s Takings Clause
  • Representing a national membership organization in nationwide enforcement of trademarks
  • Counseling a hospital and a hospital system in qui tam whistleblower action involving False Claims Act, Stark Laws and the Anti-Kickback Statute
  • Representing major corporations in internal investigations

Education

Nick received his law degree from Washington University School of Law (J.D., magna cum laude, 2012), where he was a senior executive editor of the Washington University Law Review. Nick received his bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Florida (B.S., magna cum laude, 2008).

Recognition

During law school, Nick’s team placed first in the American Bar Association’s 2012 National Appellate Advocacy Competition, during which Nick also individually received the National Best Advocate Award (second place). Upon graduation from law school, Nick received the Judge Amandus Brackman Moot Court Award, the Don Summers Award in Professional Responsibility, and the Breckinridge Academic Award (second honors).

Admissions

Nick is admitted to practice in Illinois and the District of Columbia, as well as before the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and the United States District Court for the District of Columbia.

Representative Matters

Showing of
Successfully represented a personal lines property carrier in recovery under property catastrophe reinsurance contracts for ice dam losses. One of few arbitration awards regarding catastrophe treatment for this form of loss.
