George “Tony” Tatum is of counsel with Foley & Lardner LLP based in the firm’s Jacksonville office where he is a member of the Insurance Practice.
Prior to joining Foley, Tony was chief corporate counsel/director of mergers & acquisitions for Insurance Office of America, Inc. headquartered in Longwood Florida. Tony was the leader of corporate transactional legal functions enterprise wide including negotiations, drafting and completion of corporate transactional documents, corporate governance, establishment of transactional policies and procedures, oversight of national compliance, litigation of employment matters, coordination and management outside counsel. Tony had oversight of all M&A functions relating to agency acquisitions and divestitures.
While at Insurance Office of America, Inc., Tony also served as general counsel of the insurance agency’s complimentary mergers and acquisition advisory firm, where he provided clients with full service M&A advisory services including negotiating, drafting and reviewing representation agreements, letters of intent, asset purchase agreements and all ancillary documents. Tony also gathered due diligence information, directed the analytics team in the creation of valuation materials, facilitated meetings with prospective purchasers or sellers, evaluated and adjusted client or prospect financial statements, advised clients on industry trends with respect to revenue and EBIDTA multiples and facilitated closing of transactions.
Additional career highlights that Tony has had include general counsel/director business and commercial affairs for the Canaveral Port Authority, assistant general counsel for the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration and in house corporate counsel for a real estate development company.
