Robert P. vom Eigen is a retired partner with Foley & Lardner LLP where he was a member of the firm’s Government & Public Policy Practice and the Automotive Industry Team. He has represented transportation clients in commercial, regulatory, and legislative matters.

His efforts on behalf of clients include obtaining a Presidential Executive Order authorizing construction of a cross-border rail tunnel under the St. Clair River connecting Michigan and Ontario; negotiation of a joint venture agreement with Amtrak for movement of perishable commodities on Amtrak passenger trains for express company client; litigation and legislative efforts to clarify Amtrak’s condemnation authority under Rail Passenger Services Act resulting in victory before the U.S. Supreme Court; resolution of service disputes between shippers and carriers or between carriers through negotiation or litigation; negotiation of arrangement with a taconite mining firm to gain competitive access to its facilities; negotiation of commuter rail use agreements and applications and challenges to proposed rail mergers before the Surface Transportation Board and the Interstate Commerce Commission.

Robert is a member of the Association of Transportation Law Professionals, and also serves as president of the Friends of Georgetown Waterfront Park, a non-profit community organization that advocates and raises funds for the construction of the park by the National Park Service.
