Overview

Kara M. Wick is a senior counsel and litigation attorney with Foley & Lardner LLP. She is a member of the firm's Business Litigation & Dispute Resolution Practice.

Kara litigates a variety of complex commercial and civil disputes. In particular, Kara has successfully represented clients in all phases of commercial disputes ranging from pre-litigation dispute resolution, litigation of complex commercial claims and defenses, and negotiation of favorable settlements. Kara has experience handling commercial foreclosure litigation, claims of unfair and deceptive trade practices, chapter 11 bankruptcy matters, and class actions.

From 2014 to 2019, Kara served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Middle District of Florida, where she prosecuted and took to federal jury trial a wide variety of criminal cases, including: white collar fraud schemes, organized violent crime, drug conspiracies, crimes against children, and immigration offenses.

Kara also handled parallel criminal investigations in connection with qui tams and other civil actions.  While working for the Department of Justice, Kara gained extensive experience investigating and prosecuting matters with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Drug Enforcement Agency, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Federal Trade Commission, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the Social Security Administration, the Department of Veteran’s Affairs, and various other federal and state agencies.

In 2009, Kara was a summer associate with Foley. Also in 2009, she served as a summer law intern in the Federal Tort Claims Act Division of the Department of Justice in Washington D.C. In 2008 she was an extern for the United States Attorney’s Office in the Middle District of Florida in 2008.

Education

Kara earned her law degree from the University of Florida (J.D., magna cum laude, 2010). She was elected to the Order of the Coif, and received the Trial Team "Best Advocate" award. While in law school, Kara earned Book Awards in legal research and writing, trial practice, and criminal law. Kara earned her undergraduate degree in political science from the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana.

Admissions

Kara is admitted to practice in Florida and in the United States District Courts for the Middle and Southern Districts of Florida.
