Andres Alvarez is a special counsel business lawyer in the Foley & Lardner México, S.C. office. His practice focuses on complex cross-border transactional matters, both in the corporate and commercial areas, government relations, and regulatory matters. He serves as outside general counsel for some clients and advises frequently in M&A transactions, compliance, corporate governance and distribution maters. He is a member of the firm’s Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance (ESG) and Transaction Practice Groups. Andres also provides continuing assistance in a number of regulatory matters for investors in Mexico, including international trade and customs, antitrust, labor and employment, government procurement and privacy matters. With extensive in-house counsel experience coupled with an MBA, Andres brings a deep understanding of what drives business decisions and how legal work can help further a client’s overall business goals. He works across multiple industries but has particular experience in the technology, financial, manufacturing, consumer, hospitality and industrial sectors.
Andres previously served as general counsel and compliance officer at the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center, an agricultural research organization with operations across the globe. While in this position, he was responsible for the organization’s appropriate corporate governance and legal compliance. Prior to that role, Andres worked as contract manager in the legal department of PepsiCo Mexico, where he drafted, reviewed, supervised and/or negotiated the agreements of the organization’s business units throughout Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean.
