Marian E. Dodson

Senior Counsel

Overview

Marian E. Dodson is a senior counsel with Foley & Lardner LLP, where she represents health care providers, governmental entities, and other employers who sponsor retirement plans and health plans. She drafts health plan documents and provides guidance on compliance with the Affordable Care Act, COBRA, and HIPAA. She also works with sponsors of defined benefit and defined contribution retirement plans on plan qualification, compliance with tax regulations, corrections, and interfacing with the IRS and Department of Labor.

Marian advises employers on health care reform and reacting to rapidly changing health care laws. She also handles complex ERISA, ACA, and state law compliance problems for health insurers, third-party administrators, and pharmacy benefit managers.

Marian is a member of the Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation Practice and the Health Care Industry Team.

Marian began her legal career serving as deputy district attorney in the San Diego County District Attorney's Office where she performed criminal trials and appellate work. 

Education

Marian earned her J.D. from Harvard Law School and graduated from the University of Southern California with a bachelor of science in business administration. 

Admissions and Professional Memberships

Marian is admitted to the State Bar of California and is a member of the Western Pension & Benefits Council.
