Of Counsel

Cynthia Harkness assists her clients, both borrowers and lenders (including non-traditional lenders), with a broad range of financing transactions, including modifications and restructurings and other situations requiring creative solutions. Cynthia focuses her practice on financial transactions, including secured and unsecured loan transactions, structured transactions, property assessed clean energy (PACE) transactions, purchases, sales and restructuring of indebtedness and most types of contractual relationships.

In addition to traditional lending work, Cynthia has worked extensively with a private nontraditional lender financing the renovation and construction of charter schools across the United States. Cynthia Harkness is a member of the firm’s Finance and Transactions Practice Groups, and Environment, Social, Corporate Governance (ESG) Team. She is also a member of the firm’s Energy Sector. She has also been qualified by FINRA as a nonpublic arbitrator.

Prior to joining the firm, Cynthia built and headed a legal department to support the banking, investment banking, research, and trading operations of a large global merchant bank in Southeast Asia, also working with the bank in New York and Europe. She was also the general counsel and corporate secretary of a publicly traded U.S. company. Cynthia started her career as a finance associate at other AmLaw 100 firms.

  • Member, Board of The Neighborhood Longhorns, an organization affiliated with The University of Texas’ Division of Diversity and Community Engagement, which supports economically disadvantaged students in grades 2-8, with tutoring and mentoring and introduces them to the college experience.
