Carrie Hoffman Discusses Push to Grant Airline Crews PUMP Act Rights

Foley & Lardner LLP Partner Carrie Hoffman is quoted in the Law360 article, “Safety Caveats Vital To Give Airline Crews PUMP Act Rights,” discussing the push by some lawmakers to grant flight crew members federal breastfeeding break rights they were previously denied due to industry pushback over safety concerns.

Hoffman noted that the uniqueness of the workplace environment in the travel industry should be taken into account when coming up with policies on breastfeeding accommodations but said that doesn't mean they aren't possible.

"You're going to have to be more nimble than you would be in a … non-aircraft work environment," she explained. "For hourly workers in a retail store or on a warehouse floor you have designated break rooms, you have set break times, you can work around those issues much more easily than you can on an airplane."
