Fall Is Here, and So Are the Model Year 2020 Cars

Every year as seasons turn from summer to fall, and pumpkin-everything dominates our grocery stores and coffee shops, manufacturers start rolling out their model year 2020 cars onto dealer lots. We take a look at some of the emerging trends in model year 2020 cars—including what is being phased off of lots.

Throwback Cars:

Several of the new cars for model year 2020 update long running models, or resurrect old favorites.

Toyota Supra: The Supra is a much awaited return, as it has been 17 years since the last Supra in the United States.
Jeep Gladiator: Jeep resurrected a Wrangler-based pickup for 2020 (it has been decades since either a Gladiator or a Jeep pickup was built), and it has made quite a splash already.
Chevrolet Corvette: One of the most popular sports cars, the Corvette has been reimagined with a 490 horsepower v8 engine visible through a rear hatch window, and a starting price of $59,995.

Luxury Car Evolution:

On the luxury side, automakers are focused on the future, debuting advanced luxury cars with impressive features and cutting-edge technology.

Mercedes-Benz GLE: Touting its Mercedex-Benx User Experience (MBUX), Kelley Blue Book named this one of its favorite 2020 cars.
Land Rover Defender: Luxury automaker Jaguar Land Rover’s CEO recently described itself as an IT company, and it shows in products like the Defender. The Defender also fits the throwback trend—it has been 22 years since the original Defender.

As for the cars that will be retiring this year, we bid adieu to a few.

Chevrolet Volt, Cruze, and Impala: Victims of the cross-over trend, these cars will no longer be manufactured.
Buick LaCrosse: Another classic sedan that is being killed off in the US (but will remain on sale in China).
Ford Taurus: The last ford Taurus rolled off the Chicago production line on March 1, 2019 after 34 years in production.
VW SportWagen and Golf Alltrak: The automaker is shifting towards crossovers and SUVs, and the only two remaining VW wagon’s in the US have been discontinued.

Fortunately, we already have our eyes on fall 2020, when we expect a few exciting models to debut. Two favorites are below:

Chevrolet Trailblazer: The Trailblazer is being resurrected to replace the Chevrolet Trax.It has been a decade since the last Trailblazer.
Ford Adventurer/Baby Bronco: Fans have been stalking the revived SUV’s release, posting photos of undercover cars, hoping to catch a glimpse.

Dealers are crossing their fingers that this new crop of vehicles inspires sales this fall and beyond.
