Gregory N. Heinen

Senior Counsel

Overview

Gregory Heinen is a senior counsel and business litigation attorney with Foley & Lardner LLP. He has a broad general litigation background, but focuses in the areas of product liability, mass torts, and toxic torts. Gregory has years of experience working with as national counsel to handle mass litigation matters in state and federal courts around the country at every stage, from filing the complaint through trial and beyond. This includes matters in multi-district litigation (MDLs) and other coordinated proceedings involving hundreds of plaintiffs. Gregory also has handled contract disputes, real estate matters, and antitrust litigation matters. In addition to many commercial disputes, Gregory has experience both conducting internal investigations and providing antitrust-related compliance counseling. Gregory has also represented clients in several appellate matters and has argued before the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals.

Representative Experience

  • National counsel for Anda, Inc., a pharmaceutical wholesale distributor, in nationwide litigation relating to the distribution of prescription opioid medications, including more than 1000 cases brought by states, cities, counties, tribes and private parties seeking recovery in connection with the opioid abuse crisis.
  • National counsel for various product manufacturers in asbestos litigation cases in state courts across the country.

Education

Gregory earned his law degree from the University of Virginia Law School (J.D., 2013), where he was on the managing board for the Journal of Law and Politics. Gregory was also executive vice president of the University of Virginia Chapter of the Federalist Society. He earned his bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee (B.A., cum laude, 2010).

Gregory received Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch recognition for Commercial Litigation (2021-2023) and Alternative Dispute Resolution (2021-2023).

Gregory was selected as a “Wisconsin Rising Star” for Commercial Litigation by Super Lawyers® magazine in 2018, 2019 and 2021.

Community Engagement

Gregory is a current member of the board of directors of the Parenting Network, and a past president and former member of the board of directors of Hope Street Ministry.

Admissions and Professional Memberships

Gregory is admitted to practice in Wisconsin, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern and Western Districts of Wisconsin and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. He has been admitted pro hac vice by state and federal courts throughout the United States.

Gregory is also a member of the American Bar Association, the Eastern District of Wisconsin Bar Association, and the Milwaukee Bar Association, and serves as co-chair of the Milwaukee Bar Association’s Civil Litigation Section. He is also a member of the Defense Research Institute and its Product Liability Section, as well as a 2018 graduate of the Thomas E. Fairchild American Inn of Court.
