Sharal L. Henderson is a special counsel with Foley & Lardner LLP. Her practice focuses on transactional and regulatory matters, with an emphasis on consumer finance law. She has experience counseling clients regarding compliance with federal and state consumer lending laws including state licensing requirements, the Truth in Lending Act, the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the Fair Credit Billing Act, Equal Credit Opportunity Act, the Electronic Funds Transfer Act, the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act, and other federal and state unfair trade practice and consumer protection laws.
Sharal provides general compliance counseling for lenders (banks, nonbanks and retail sellers), servicers and consumer reporting agencies. Sharal is a member of the Firm’s Hospitality & Leisure Industry Team and provides consumer finance and general compliance counseling for vacation ownership projects.
Sharal is also a member of the Firm’s Transaction Practice Group and has experience in a variety of corporate law matters, including corporate formation, operations and governance, contract drafting and review, and various merger and acquisition transactions and capital raising transactions.
Sharal also has experience counseling tax-exempt and non-profit organizations on a variety of matters including formation and obtaining exemption as well as ongoing operations and transactions.
In addition to being a lawyer, Sharal is a certified public accountant. Prior to practicing law, Sharal gained experience in the finance and accounting fields holding positions as controller, director, and vice-president of financial reporting and accounting. She was also an auditor in a regional public accounting firm where she performed audits of local governmental entities, tax-exempt entities, for-profit entities, and employee benefit plans. While in law school, Sharal interned at the Florida Supreme Court for Justice Raoul G. Cantero, III.
Sharal received her J.D., summa cum laude, from Florida State University College of Law (2005), where she was a member of the Florida State University Law Review and was selected for the Florida State Chapter of the Order of the Coif.
Sharal earned both a Master of Accountancy (1995) and a B.A. in accounting (1994) from the University of West Florida. While pursuing her undergraduate degree, Sharal served on active duty with the U.S. Air Force.
Sharal has been admitted to practice law in Florida since 2005, and has been licensed as a certified public accountant in Florida since 1996. She is a member of the Florida Bar, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
