Dallas, Houston Annual MLK Jr. Oratory Final Competition to Take Place Jan. 17
Gardere is continuing its tradition of extolling the work and teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with the 2014 Martin Luther King Jr. Oratory Competitions in Dallas and Houston on Friday, Jan. 17.
Fourth- and fifth- grade elementary students will participate and contemplate the theme, "If Dr. King were speaking at a March on Washington today, what would he say?" This unique event encourages the development of research, writing and oratory skills of hundreds of Dallas and Houston elementary school children.
"Our Firm is proud to continue its sponsorship of this competition featuring outstanding fourth and fifth grade students," says Dwight Francis, co-chair of Gardere's Diversity Committee. "The contest encourages scholarship while reinforcing the need for unity and the vital human traits of compassion and justice — traits that are crucial throughout the community."
The 22nd annual Dallas competition, co-presented by Dallas ISD, will be held at The Majestic Theatre. The 18th annual Houston competition, co-presented by Houston ISD, will take place at the historic downtown Antioch Missionary Baptist Church.
