On Thursday, June 14, 2007, Elizabeth O’Keeffe will be presenting at Massachusetts Extended Care Federation’s (MECF) “Successful Strategies for Managing and Collecting Receivables” at Lombardo’s in Randolph, MA from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
This timely seminar will focus on strategies for collecting receivables from all sources (private, Medicare, Medicaid) in light of the dramatic changes contained in the 2006 Deficit Reduction Act (DRA). Those responsible for the business side of nursing facility operations will learn how to minimize losses due to an excess of receivables. The DRA contained provisions that increased the potential for uncompensated care in nursing homes. Understanding what can and should be done to manage receivables is crucial to your facility’s financial viability. The tactics to be discussed in this workshop include pre-admission verifications, admission agreements, Medicare demand letters, arbitration and litigation, guardianships, discharge proceedings for non-payment, anticipating and managing billing cycles, and filing for hardship waivers to limit a facility’s exposure to uncompensated care resulting from asset transfers that disqualify residents from obtaining Medicaid coverage.
MECF has assembled the following expert presenters who will discuss their strategies for collecting receivables from all sources including private, Medicare, and Medicaid:
- Deborah Masterson, Esquire – Ms. Masterson is an attorney in private practice specializing in nursing facility-resident family member relations. She has lectured frequently at prior MECF workshops.
- Janine Boudreau – Boudreau Healthcare Consulting, Inc., Ms. Boudreau’s company focuses on the collection of public (Medicaid and Medicare) receivables and the development of internal systems to reduce payables.
- Elizabeth O’Keeffe, Esquire – Ms. O’Keeffe is an attorney with the firm of Foley & Lardner LLP. She has presented extensively on corporate compliance and risk management, most recently to the national Health Care Compliance Association.
