Ms. Wagonhurst spoke with Jim Sheehan, Medicaid Inspector General for the State of New York and Neil Smithline, Director of Clinical Quality for Mercer Health & Benefits on Sunday, September 30, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. Their session was titled: “Emerging Enforcement of Quality of Care and Compliance Solutions.”
This session provided an in-depth discussion on the emerging trend of government enforcement of quality of care and the recently issues OIG/AHLA guidance for Boards of Directors on Quality of Care (July 2007). Attendees took away practical tools for integrating quality into their compliance program. Particular emphasis was on:
- Recent trend of enforcement actions against healthcare providers
- Impact of data mining, reporting obligations, pay for performance, and CMS quality initiatives
- Recently issues OIG/AHLA guidance for Boards of Directors
- How to integrate quality into your compliance program
- When to consider using outside independent review organizations when peer review is not working
