Partner LaDale George will be speaking at the American Bar Association’s (ABA) Washington Healthcare Summit on December 3 – 4, 2007 in Arlington, VA.
Mr. George will be speaking with Steve Phurrough, MD, MPA, Director, Coverage and Analysis Group, Office of Clinical Standards and Quality for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services on Monday, December 3, 2007 from 10:40 a.m. – 11:55 a.m. Their session is titled: “The Evolving Role of Medicare in Clinical Research.”
The issuance of National Coverage Determination (NCD) in 2000 escalated the number of Medicare beneficiaries participating in clinical trials and introduced significant regulatory compliance challenges into the clinical research industry. Following nearly a year of public discussion, in July 2007 the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services issued revisions to the NCD, entitled the Clinical Trial Policy (CTP). Within days, CMS released a Request for Comments proposing several additional changes to the newly issued CTP. Panelists will discuss the scope of these new and proposed policies and their impact on researchers, beneficiaries, providers and the drug and device industry.
