Quality of care is a top issue for health care organizations today. Many organizations, however, struggle to overcome obstacles that prevent them from attaining consistent and predictable high quality care. On October 14, 2008, the Office of Inspector General of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (OIG) posted a new Advisory Opinion that addresses an innovative structure to align hospitals’ and physicians’ incentives to drive quality of care. Our speakers will provide background information on the quality movement and talk about the “two-sided coin” to improve quality — structuring relationships with physicians to align financial incentives around quality of care and conducting assessments of quality processes and structures to prevent costly and public enforcement actions based on quality breakdowns.
Foley Health Care Industry Team attorneys Janice A. Anderson and Cheryl L. Wagonhurst along with Cory Flickinger, Healthcare Consultant in Quality/Patient Safety and Compliance, Clinical Research Solutions and Healthcare Compliance Practice, Huron Consulting Group, discussed ways to overcome obstacles to driving quality of care.
