Improving Compliance in the Face of Complex Privacy and Security Regulations
When running a business, regardless of its size or maturity, the highest priorities often include growing revenue and profitability. But in a world where most information — employee data, customer data, patient data, corporate financial data — is electronic and increasingly regulated, how do you manage compliance and business needs? How do you design products and services to enhance your clients’ compliance — and thus your own sales?
Since the FTC and the Massachusetts Attorney General have made privacy and security rules a priority, every company needs to understand the rules in order to best manage the risk. While there is no single right way to address these myriad rules, you will be in a better position if you look at these requirements collectively so that any steps you take address multiple rules.
Foley presented a Foley Executive Briefing Series program that outlined the steps that should be taken as part of your compliance and business strategy. Topics for the seminar included:
- Complying with Massachusetts data security regulations
- Building privacy and security into your products and services
- Creating an effective privacy compliance program
- Addressing the PR issues of a data incident
- International privacy compliance and its impact on your employees and customers
These and other related topics were addressed in an informal, interactive panel session led by Peter F. McLaughlin, Foley Privacy, Security, and Information Management Senior Counsel and former global privacy lead for a Fortune 20 company, and Patrick Manzo, Senior Vice President of Compliance and Chief Privacy Officer at Monster Worldwide.
