In response to health care reform and reductions in fee for service reimbursement, physicians and other health care providers are exploring ways to align clinically and financially to improve quality, efficiency, and work flow processes, and to provide access to patient-centered and accountable care. Despite the trend of hospitals acquiring physician practices and employing physicians, many fiercely independent physicians and medical groups are not interested in selling out to or being taken over by a hospital. What options are available for hospitals to align with these physicians?
Please join Foley’s Health Care Industry Team for the third program in our Physician-Hospital Alignment Series, “Models for Successful Collaboration With Physicians,” as we examine real-world examples of hospital/physician integration arrangements that preserve independent private practice and benefit both participating hospitals and physicians. Hospital and physician executives who have implemented these models will share their experiences, and Foley attorneys who have designed the legal structures will explain the steps necessary for successful collaboration between hospitals and physicians. Business, legal, and valuation issues associated with these models will be explored, and lessons learned, both pro and con, will be highlighted.
We will introduce four separate models for hospital/physician collaboration that preserve independent private practice: Service Line Co-Management Agreements, Professional Services Agreements (PSAs), Modified Under Arrangement Projects, and Joint Ventures. Additionally, we will discuss hybrids, combinations, and variations of these models that have been successfully implemented by providers.
