Partner Melinda Levitt said web-based service subscribers may not have the maximum privacy protections granted to electronic communications, noting that the U.S. government is able to access remotely stored e-mails with a subpoena rather than a search warrant. Levitt added that modifying the way e-mails are stored after being opened may give subscribers added protection against unwarranted government access to their e-mails.
