William Ball Comments on Federal-State Tension Over ‘National Interest’ Power Lines
Foley & Lardner LLP Public Affairs Director William Ball is quoted in the Bloomberg Law article, “States Balk at Permitting Plan’s ‘National Interest’ Power Lines,” about the federal-state tension over the Biden administration’s efforts to declare “national interest” corridors to speed permitting of electrical transmission lines. The plans, which would unlock $2 billion in the new climate law, face opposition from state utility officials who aim to retain authority over final decision making.
Ball said that the U.S. Department of Energy, by being slow to act on transmission studies over the years, is “really inviting Congress to try to get more involved in this.”
“They seem to be in a bit of a paralysis by analysis where it is unclear when they are going to get these things off the ground,” he added.
