Partner Judy Waltz was quoted in a Modern Healthcare article, “Stark Relief? CMS Proposals Could Ease Burden of Self-Referral Law,” on July 10, 2015. The article discussed the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ proposed changes on topics including the Stark Law, which prohibits physicians from making referrals for services covered by government programs to entities in which they have financial interests. Waltz said it will take time for attorneys and providers to understand the potential impact of the proposed changes, and was quoted saying, “Stark is probably the most difficult of the federal healthcare laws to interpret. It’s very easy to step over the line with Stark and the punishment is very draconian.”
